What a crazy month for Sports!

Hello Gwinnett,

In this month’s article, I will be talking about the Patriots pursuit of perfection, the Hawks hot streak, Falcons woes, and the Thrashers inconsistency.
I will start off this section with Tom Brady and the Patriots. The Patriots are 16-0 and are undefeated in the regular season. Tom Brady has thrown 50 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions. Their only close games were against the Colts, Ravens, Jets, Eagles, and Giants. The now-historical game against the Giants was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen. Watching the game, it felt like it was a playoff game. They have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They now aim for a 19-0 season. Tom Brady is the new all-time passing touchdown leader with 50 TD passes and Randy Moss is now the all-time receiving touchdown leader with 23 TD catches. Keep up the good work guys!
Let’s talk about the Falcons. They are 3-12 and December was a month to forget for Authur Blank and his organization. In fact, this has been a horrible year for them. They have lost six straight games. After a Monday night game against the surging Saints, head coach Bobby Petrino resigned after 13 games with the Falcons to go sign with the Arkansas Razorbacks. It really made me angry watching that press conference and he was all smiles and chanting with his new team. He’s a liar and has no class at all. To make matters worse, the Falcons were ready to reel in the Big Tuna, Bill Parcells, but he bailed on them at the end, signing with the Miami Dolphins as their VP.
DeAngelo Hall was heated in an interview earlier this month. I read his comments on NFL.com. He said if owner Arthur Blank hires a coach whose personality is directly opposite from Bobby Petrino's, DeAngelo Hall wants to return to the Atlanta Falcons next year. Otherwise, the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback might demand a trade. DeAngelo made a statement about his future with Atlanta saying, "I can't do this no more," Hall said. "I won't do this no more, let me say that. I will not be a part of a losing team another year, no matter what I got to do, no matter who hates me, whatever. I won't be a part of a losing team again, not if I can help it. "
Hall remains an outspoken critic of Petrino. The Falcons (3-12) have a six-game losing streak. A former No. 8 overall draft pick, he grew so tired of what he described as an unapproachable attitude from Petrino that he still doesn't regret their sideline fight in Week 3 against the Panthers. This is my take on it. When Jim Mora went on that radio show and said that he would take the Washington head coaching position, he was fired and replaced with two-faced Petrino and that’s when Michael Vick got caught with his dog-fighting problems. Then the players seemed to think they couldn’t win without Vick and also Patrick Kerney, (who is with the Seahawks). The players and Bobby Petrino both weren’t giving it their all! This will be a rebuilding year for Atlanta. This is really crazy and I hope they fix it. We will have a high draft pick in the upcoming draft, and hopefully we will get an impact player.
The College Football bowl season has begun. Georgia Tech has a new Head Coach, Paul Johnson and he will replace Chan Gailey. The Jackets will play Fresno State in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise. The Georgia Bulldogs will face Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. This is Hawaii’s first BCS Bowl game. Hawaii has a high powered offense led by quarterback Colt Brennan and were undefeated this year. Good luck to Georgia and Georgia Tech in their Bowl games.
To the NBA now. The Atlanta Hawks are two games over .500. They had a 5 game winning streak before they lost to the Dallas Mavericks. This has been a good month for ATL. Joe Johnson was named player of the week, Josh Smith leads the league in blocks and Al Horford is leading all rookies in rebounds and blocked shots. Coach Woodson and his ball club are still young but they’re playing great ball.
The Boston Celtics are off to a great start. They are 25-3 on the year. Kevin Garnett is the early MVP in my book. When he’s getting double-teamed in the post, he kicks the ball out to either Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, or and upcoming star, Rajon Rondo for the open shot. Kevin’s presence makes a big difference because he can pass the ball, shoot the ball, and he intimidates other opponents. That’s why he’s an early MVP candidate.
The Atlanta Thrashers have been very inconsistent this season and are even at 19-19. They are currently third in the Southeast division. They have scored 39 points and are tied with the Florida Panthers for points in the Southeast division. They will eventually get better when the get some of their players back from injuries.
That’s my article. 2007 had a lot of news in the world of sports. I am sure 2008 will have a lot to talk about as well. Happy New Year!
See you next Month!
