Hello Gwinnett,
I hope you all had a great month. I know I did because I got a chance to see the Giants end the Patriots perfect season, I got a chance to see the new “Superman” (Dwight Howard), and see King James win another All Star Game MVP!
I want to start off by talking about the Super Bowl and “ spy gate”. The New York Giants lost to the Patriots in week 17, 38-35. After that loss, Giants Wide Receiver Plaxico Burress took that loss personally. He figured out how to get past Asante Samuel and Ellis Hobbs. He studied the game film and used it to his advantage. He burned Ellis Hobbs on the game winning play. Everyone in New York was going crazy once the clock ran out. The final score: Giants 17, Patriots 14. Word was going around that the Patriots were filming the St. Louis Rams during Super Bowl XXXVI. The Pats claim that they did not tape the Rams. When asked about what happened with the “spy gate” situation, Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he had no knowledge of what was going on. The same went for Notre Dame Coach: Charlie Weis.
At the end of February, all MLB players and coaches come out and prepare for spring training. As the teams are addressing last year’s issues, the braves are still looking for another starting pitcher. We know that Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, and maybe Tom Glavine still can get the job done. But you have Chuck James, who has had some issues in the past. James had a disappointing season. He went 11-10 and he led the whole league in home runs allowed with 32 home runs given up in 2007. Buddy Carlyle had a great beginning of the season. But in the last ten games he pitched, he only won three games, lost four games, and his ERA was 6.75. Next, you have Mike Hampton who missed the past two seasons with a torn oblique muscle. So hopefully they can get some desperately needed help.
The NBA All Star Weekend was visited by a superhero. His name is Dwight Howard but this weekend, he was known as Superman. This has been the greatest All Star Weekend I have ever seen. The Eastern Conference was represented well by Lebron James, Dwight Howard, and now-Dallas Maverick, Jason Kidd. The East won the game: 134-128. Once again, Lebron James won the MVP award.
As you may or may not know, the trade deadline has passed and big name players changed area codes in February. Shaquille O’Neal was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Shawn Marion and Markus Banks. Pau Gasol was traded to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Aaron McKie and Javaris Crittenton. Jason Kidd was also dealt to the Dallas Mavericks for Keith VanHorn, Devin Harris, Malik Allen, and Antoine Wright. Then Mike Bibby was traded to Atlanta for Shelden Williams, Tyrone Lue, Anthony Johnson, and Lorenzen Wright. Finally, in a three-team trade, The Cavs got Delonte West, Joe Smith, Ben Wallace, and Wally Szczerbiak. The Sonics got Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble, and Adrian Griffin. The Bulls got Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, Shannon Brown, and Cedric Simmons. As you can see, there were a lot of trades in February.
See you next month!
