Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation Aquatics Program Receives National Award

Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation Aquatics Manager Jim Cyrus (center) along with aquatics staff received the nationally coveted Excellence in Aquatics Award presented to Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation by the National Recreation and Parks Association.

(Lawrenceville, Ga.) – Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation (GCPR) has garnered the Excellence in Aquatics award from the National Recreation and Park Association. This prestigious award recognizes GCPR’s state-of-the-art aquatic centers and leisure pools, along with programming that serves all ages – from infants to senior citizens and those with special needs, services provided, training, water safety, and staff involvement on a local, state, regional and national level.

Parks and Recreation continues to grow at a fast pace and currently operates 17 swimming pools that include two indoor and seven outdoor leisure pools, five indoor competition pools, two indoor instructional pools, and one outdoor pool.

In addition to a wide-array of aquatics amenities and offerings for both fun and learning, GCPR offers more than 1,500 private, semi-private and group swim lessons annually for all ages, from structured classes to private and semi-private lessons.

Training is another area GCPR excels in by offering 17 lifeguard training/lifeguard instructor/water safety instructor classes annually, which led their lifeguards to win a state lifeguard competition consecutively in 2006 and 2007.
