The latest news about wills and estate planning concerns the latest changes in the law of estate taxes. The good news is that under the new estate tax laws, with a $5.0 million exemption, together with a 35% tax rate, the estate tax will apply to less than 1 percent of Americans. This relief will last for two years. So, the other news is that the changes apply to estates of those dying in 2011 and 2012, as well as to gifts and generation-skipping transfers made in those years.
