You can go home again

“You can’t go home again” is the title of a Thomas Wolfe novel but after my current round of spring photography jobs, I maintain you CAN go home again if it’s Gwinnett County, Georgia. Proof positive of this was seen at the Dacula High School Prom “Arabian Nights” where Prom Organizer Katie Lowry assembled a host of Dacula High School teachers all of whom graduated from various Gwinnett County high schools and returned to a career in teaching here. Nearly all of the pictured teachers are also Coaches and they are known to lunch together on the third floor of DHS where they celebrate “Fat Fridays” each week. This involves a predetermined theme cuisine such as Salad Day or Mexican Fiesta.
Shown with their high school alma mater noted are across (L-R): Kevin Glausier (Central), Derick Dunnigan (Norcross), Andy Christie (South Gwinnett), Travis Young (Dacula), Steve White (Central) and Jerilyn Hyndman (Brookwood) Front row consists of Tammy Gausier, Jack Lowry (Meadowcreek), Katie Lowry (Brookwood), and Ted Wilson (South Gwinnett).
Central Gwinnett High School Juniors and Seniors crowned Prom Queen Amber Schoer and Prom King Ruben Chiza. Amber is a drama student who played the title role in “Bad Seed” this year.
Ruben, active in chorus, quartet and church music, is headed for Valdosta State University where he will pursue his plan to become a teacher. The Grayson Day Parade float from McConnell Middle School showcased Teacher of the Year Angela Thurman, and new Principal, Paula Everett-Truppi. Also shown is 8th grader Kevin Schatell whose family is completing the “Magic Moment Triple Mortar Board Award” this year as Kevin completes 8th grade at McConnell, brother Greg graduates from Grayson High School and sister Allison completes UGA with a degree in Broadcasting.
Another Grayson HS graduate is Kristin Mitchell who will continue her cheerleading career at Georgia State and College University. Kristin is also involved in Students Against Drunk Driving, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, lst runner up to Miss GHS and just joined Toastmasters.
Grayson HS competition Varsity Golden Ram Squad is headed by Molly Spencer, wife of Peachtree Ridge High School Varsity Competition Cheer coach Rob Spencer. They met cheering at University of Georgia and now married for 13 years are the parents of three year old twins, Last year they went head-to-head at the State level where Peachtree Ridge took first to Grayson’s 3rd place.
Mill Creek High School Baseball Seniors are the first group of Seniors to attend MCHS since its 2004 inception. Team Parent Tammy Ryan enthuses that under a great Coaching staff led by Doug Jones, the group has “totally jelled”.
Finally we come to the case of Zachary Shore. At age 4, it’s his first year of Baseball at First Baptist Church in Grayson and he likes cars, trucks, trains and dinosaurs. Yet, he does not like to smile for pictures. He proves our theory that adorable does not always have to involve a smile.
