Rotary and summer lunches

Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization filled with community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities and the world. This summer, Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise is focusing on the needs in their community. Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise has partnered with the SE Cooperative Ministries and MUST Ministries to deliver free sack lunches all summer to children in our area who receive free and reduced lunch during the school year. Georgia Gwinnett College’s first honor society, Golden Key, inducted it’s first 71 student members recently in a ceremony that also honored several of the college’s leaders. Golden Key is the world’s premier collegiate honor society, recognizing outstanding academic achievement and connecting high-achieving individuals locally, regionally and globally with lifetime opportunity, reward and success. Walton EMC Awards $75,000 in Scholarships to Local Students

Outstanding students from across Walton Electric Membership Corporation's (EMC) 10-county service area are the beneficiaries of the cooperative's latest round of Operation Round Up college scholarships. Local firefighter wins second place in life-saving software design competition

Alex Griffin, Gwinnett County firefighter and CEO of a growing Atlanta-area software development company (LFG Command Systems), won second place in the software design competition at the Random Hacks of Kindness. Snellville Commerce Club awards scholarships

Brookwood High School senior Aida Syrkett and South Gwinnett High School senior Erika Galdamez are the recipients of $1,000 college scholarships awarded by the Snellville Commerce Club. Each year, the club presents a scholarship to a graduate from each school who participates in their school’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) or Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) program. at 2011 PETS

Six local Rotarians participated in the 2011 Peach State PETS (President-Elect and President-Nominee Training Seminar.). The seminar was held March 19-20 at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel. Around 500 Georgia Rotarians, mostly from Districts 6900, 6910 and 6920, participated in the seminar. The Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus will present its 2011 Spring Concert, “Love is in the Air” for one performance only on Saturday, June 4, at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of Mountain Park United Methodist Church. The church is located at 1405 Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain. Doors will open at 2:00 PM. The featured guest for this year's concert is A Mighty Wind, 2010 International Finalist Quartet. This talented foursome will represent the Dixie District of the Barbershop Harmony Society at the 2011 International Convention and Competition in Kansas City this coming July. More...
